She was only 12: Black girl with a hazelnut allergy died

The family of a 12-year-old girl who suffered a fatal allergic reaction from cross-contaminated food is now advocating for stricter safety protocols in dining establishments.

She was only 12: Black girl with a hazelnut allergy died

💔🥤 This is the kind of story that makes your stomach drop because it was supposed to be something so simple — a milkshake.

12-year-old Mia Shay St Hilaire had a severe hazelnut allergy. An investigation into her death found that the milkshake she ordered from a London café was made in a blender that had not been properly washed after being used for a drink containing hazelnut.

That cross-contamination triggered a fatal allergic reaction. Mia later died despite efforts to save her, and the café operator was later fined over food-safety violations.

Now her family is pushing for stronger allergy-safety measures in restaurants and cafés — because one missed cleaning step should never cost a child her life.

Mia deserved to be safe ordering something as simple as a milkshake. 💔
