All hail the Queen: Hip-hop icon Queen Latifah honored with a stunning new Brooklyn mural
A new Brooklyn mural by artist Ashley Hodder celebrates the legendary Queen Latifah, highlighting her enduring impact on hip-hop and culture within an all-female artist showcase.

👑🎨 Now THIS is how you honor a Queen.
Hip-hop icon Queen Latifah has been immortalized on the walls of Brooklyn with a stunning new portrait mural created by artist Ashley Hodder for the 2026 BedStuy Walls Mural Festival. The annual community art festival transforms parts of Bedford-Stuyvesant into an open-air gallery — and this year marked its first all-female artist lineup.
And honestly, who better to put on the wall? Queen Latifah has spent decades making space for women in hip-hop while building a career that stretched from music into acting, producing and entrepreneurship. Long before “women in hip-hop” became an industry conversation, she was giving us “Ladies First” and “U.N.I.T.Y.” 👏🏾
There’s something beautiful about seeing a Black woman whose work helped shape culture become part of the actual landscape of Brooklyn — while a lineup of women artists gets the spotlight at the same time. That’s art honoring legacy while creating more room for the women coming behind it. 🖤
