WNBA legend Lisa Leslie makes history as first female pro athlete honored with a statue
WNBA icon Lisa Leslie has been honored with a permanent statue outside the Crypto.com Arena for her legendary contributions to professional basketball.
🏀 Now THIS is what getting your flowers looks like.
WNBA legend and Los Angeles Sparks icon Lisa Leslie has officially been immortalized in Los Angeles with her own statue outside Crypto.com Arena. The Hall of Famer became the first female professional athlete honored with a statue there.
And the pose couldn’t be more fitting. The statue captures Lisa dunking a basketball — honoring the woman who became the first player in WNBA history to dunk in a game. During her 12 seasons with the Sparks, she also won two WNBA championships, three league MVP awards and four Olympic gold medals.
Lisa said she hopes young girls can look at the statue, see themselves represented and believe they can dream that big too. From growing up in the Los Angeles area to now standing permanently outside one of the city’s biggest arenas — that’s legacy. 🖤
