Happy 72nd birthday to Ruby Bridges, who made history at just 6 by becoming the first Black child to attend an all-white New Orleans school
As she celebrates her 72nd birthday, we honor the legacy of the civil rights pioneer who courageously integrated an all-white elementary school as a young child.

🎂 She was only SIX years old when she walked into an all-white school and became part of American history. Today, Ruby Bridges turns 72. 🖤
On November 14, 1960, Ruby became the first Black child to attend the all-white William Frantz Elementary School in New Orleans. At just 6 years old, she was escorted by federal marshals past angry protesters simply to go to school.
The backlash affected her entire family, but Ruby kept showing up. She completed the school year without missing a single day and went on to become a civil rights activist, author and advocate for education and equality.
There’s something powerful about knowing that the little Black girl in those historic photos is still here, still telling her story and still inspiring generations. Happy 72nd birthday, Ruby Bridges. 🖤
