Black woman baker Ashley La Bomme-Benson gets a shout-out from Ms. Rachel – 24 hours of orders cover her $3,650 monthly rent
A small bakery owner saw her business thrive after a social media shout-out led to a surge in orders that covered her monthly rent.

🍪 Okayyyy, this is what real support can do.
Ashley La Bomme-Benson, owner of Los Angeles-based The Bomme Sweets, responded after Ms. Rachel asked Black entrepreneurs to share their businesses on Threads. With thousands of replies already pouring in, Ashley almost kept scrolling — but she took a chance and introduced her business.
Ms. Rachel later reposted The Bomme Sweets and followed the account. Ashley says she received her first cookie order in more than a year, and the orders kept coming. Within two weeks, the bakery had received 102 cookie orders, and Ashley says the orders from the first 24 hours were enough to cover her $3,650 monthly rent.
That kind of visibility can mean everything for a small business. Ashley says the support gave her new confidence to keep building, with hopes of one day opening a brick-and-mortar bakery.
Okayyyy Ashley! We love to see a Black woman’s business get the eyes it deserves. 🖤
