Meet Gina Merritt – Black real estate developer who raised $310 million

🎉 She once lived in affordable housing. Now she’s building it at scale.

Dr. Gina Merritt’s journey began with her own experience living in affordable housing, which inspired her to dedicate her life to transforming how communities are built. After landing her first job in real estate development by chance, she built her expertise in development, finance, and construction — facing repeated financial barriers as a Black woman with no inherited wealth — and eventually founded Northern Real Estate Urban Ventures (NREUV). Through her company and her initiative, Project Community Capital, she connects developers with local workers, entrepreneurs, and residents. Today, with more than $310 million raised and over a thousand units in development across several U.S. states, she’s turning affordable housing into a pathway for empowerment and generational wealth.

This is what it looks like when someone builds the very thing that once gave them a chance. 🖤
