Black mom still fighting for answers after 12-year-old daughter Iyhari Weddle died days after eating recalled chicken
A grieving mother is persistently seeking answers and justice regarding her daughter's sudden death, which she links to a recalled food product.

💔 Nearly two years after losing her 12-year-old daughter, Iyhari Weddle’s mother is still fighting for answers — and she refuses to let her baby’s story be forgotten.
Iyhari died on October 18, 2024, two days after her mother says they ate a Michelina’s Chicken Alfredo meal together. A wrongful-death lawsuit later alleged Iyhari died from listeriosis after eating a product connected to the massive 2024 BrucePac recall involving ready-to-eat meat and poultry products.
But Iyhari’s mother says the fight for answers has been heartbreaking. She says her daughter was never specifically tested for Listeria, and after the lawsuit was dismissed with prejudice, she has struggled to find an attorney willing to continue the case. She is now speaking publicly again because she believes her daughter’s story deserves to be heard.
While Iyhari’s family alleged the recalled meal caused her death, federal officials had not confirmed a link between Iyhari’s death and the BrucePac recall when the lawsuit was reported. Her mother continues to seek answers about what happened to her daughter.
Almost two years later, a Black mother is still saying her baby’s name and asking people to listen. Her name was Iyhari Weddle. She was 12 years old. 🖤
