Actress & producer Marsai Martin says she doesn't want "Black pain" projects - she wants Black stories
Producer Marsai Martin is shifting the narrative in Hollywood by prioritizing stories that celebrate the full spectrum of Black life beyond just trauma.
🎬🖤 Marsai Martin made one thing very clear about the stories she wants to produce: everything about Black life does NOT have to begin with trauma.
Speaking about the projects she develops through her production company, Genius Entertainment, Marsai explained that she doesn’t want every Black story centered around pain.
Her focus is on stories that are diverse and real while still allowing Black characters to be celebrated, loved and fully living their lives.
And honestly, it opens up a bigger conversation: Black stories absolutely can address hard realities — but we also deserve romance, comedy, fantasy, luxury, softness, adventure and JOY.
Our stories are bigger than our trauma. 🖤
