Arizona sues L'Oréal over alleged cancer risks tied to hair relaxers
A new lawsuit against L'Oreal highlights growing concerns over the potential cancer risks associated with hair relaxers frequently used by Black women.
⚠️🖤 Imagine finding out the relaxers so many Black girls grew up using are now at the center of a cancer lawsuit.
Arizona is suing L’Oréal, alleging the company failed to properly warn consumers about possible cancer risks linked to certain hair relaxers — products that have been part of Black hair routines for generations.
That’s what makes this hit so hard. For a lot of us, relaxers weren’t some random beauty product. They were part of childhood, salon days, school pictures, holidays and “getting our hair done.”
Some women already had concerns about relaxers and what they could be doing to our bodies. Now this lawsuit is bringing those fears right back to the front.
And honestly, a lot of Black women are probably looking at those old relaxer days very differently now.
